2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special near Leland, NC

Studio side profile of 2025 Road King Special in red with blacked-out engine and stretched bags.

The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special maintains its identity as a factory-custom touring model with a distinctive cruiser silhouette. Its design eliminates the front fairing to preserve a cleaner, stripped-down profile while offering storage, power, and comfort aligned with long-distance capabilities. Engine performance, suspension technology, braking systems, and rider-focused features work together to deliver a practical machine for those who expect technical consistency from a touring motorcycle platform.

This model is offered in Billiard Gray, Vivid Black, and Whiskey Fire. All finishes are matched with full blacked-out treatment across the engine, exhaust, controls, and trim. The bike is manufactured as a single trim level and uses a proven engine, integrated storage, and modern safety technologies without relying on complex interface systems or redundant control features.

Engine Configuration and Drivetrain Output

The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 engine. This powertrain features four-valve cylinder heads and dual counterbalancers to reduce engine vibration while retaining mechanical feedback. It is tuned for 122 ft-lb of torque and produces 95 horsepower. Fuel economy is rated at 43 mpg, and the fuel tank holds six gallons to support extended ranges between refueling stops.

Air delivery is managed through a high-performance ventilator air cleaner with an exposed, ribbed design. The air filter element is positioned to maximize flow and support the engine’s torque mapping. Exhaust routing uses a blacked-out two-into-two system with tapered mufflers, configured to follow the lower edge of the bike while allowing high-volume output. The system complements both performance and appearance by maintaining a consistent line beneath the stretched saddlebags and frame.

Chassis Geometry and Suspension Features

The frame geometry remains consistent with standard Harley-Davidson® touring setups. The low-mounted seat is measured at 26.4 inches when loaded, contributing to the bike’s balanced center of gravity and forward control layout.

Front suspension is managed by a SHOWA® Dual Bending Valve fork. This component is designed to deliver linear damping characteristics by controlling oil flow through paired compression and rebound valves. Rear suspension uses emulsion technology with an adjustable preload mechanism, allowing tuning for weight distribution based on cargo or rider preference.

Control Configuration and Instrumentation

Handlebars are mini-ape style and designed to provide an upright riding position. The shape and rise of the bars allow for personal adjustment to match rider reach and preferred stance. Controls remain traditional and tactile, without extensive digital input systems. An analog gauge is mounted directly to the tank and contains essential operating information.

Cruise control is included as standard. This feature is integrated directly into the throttle control system and does not require additional interface components. Its operation allows the rider to maintain consistent speeds on longer routes without manual throttle input.

Headlamp and Lighting Technology

The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special retains the signature nacelle-style headlamp housing. Within this housing is a full LED headlight, offering increased brightness and clarity compared to traditional halogen bulbs. The Daymaker® LED forward lighting enhances visibility for both the rider and surrounding traffic. The position and shape of the nacelle also serve as a visual reference point when scanning the road ahead during night riding.

LED lighting is used across the bike for signal indicators, brake lights, and rear illumination.

Storage and Integrated Utility

Stretched saddlebags are mounted to the frame in line with the rear fender, providing 2.5 cubic feet of total cargo volume. These bags use a top-hinged lid design and can be locked for security. Their extended shape contributes to the linear styling of the motorcycle, continuing the flow from the rider seat through to the rear axle and exhaust system.

The saddlebags are constructed from molded hard material with a painted finish to match the selected body color.

Braking Systems and Cornering Technologies

Braking is managed by high-performance components developed in partnership with Brembo®. These include dual front calipers and a single rear unit, each calibrated to deliver responsive braking pressure with a direct lever and pedal feel. The system is linked electronically, meaning brake input on either control will distribute pressure to both front and rear brakes when needed.

The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is standard. It prevents wheel lock during aggressive or emergency braking by modulating brake pressure in real time. When braking in a straight line, the system maintains balance and steering control, particularly in wet or unstable surface conditions.

Optional Cornering Enhanced Rider Safety Enhancements extend these features further. Cornering Enhanced ABS (C-ABS) adjusts braking input based on the lean angle of the motorcycle. It modifies pressure during turns to prevent over-braking and preserve the rider’s trajectory. Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB) also operates with lean detection to proportion braking force during deceleration into curves or winding sections of road.

Cornering Enhanced Traction Control (C-TCS) minimizes rear wheel slip during throttle application by monitoring traction conditions and adjusting power delivery. Cornering Drag-Torque Slip Control System (C-DSCS) is available to manage rear wheel behavior during rapid downshifting or throttle release. It reduces the likelihood of wheel hop or lockup, particularly during deceleration from highway speeds or entry into downhill curves.

Stability Assist and Monitoring Tools

Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) is offered as an optional convenience system for riders navigating ramps or uphill intersections. When activated by a firm brake lever or pedal input at a stop, VHC applies brake pressure until forward momentum resumes. This prevents rollback and reduces rider fatigue in stop-and-go traffic or when launching from uneven terrain. VHC disengages automatically once forward drive is initiated and is not designed to replace a parking brake during extended stops or dismounts.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is another available feature. It tracks front and rear tire air pressure and displays alerts if readings fall outside of recommended operating levels. TPMS promotes longer tire life, more consistent handling, and increased safety by helping riders identify pressure changes that could affect vehicle performance.

Rider Support and Control Balance

Each safety system operates independently but is calibrated to support the bike’s natural handling characteristics. These systems do not override rider input but rather adjust background behavior based on sensor data and real-time riding dynamics. The goal of this technology is to enhance balance and stability under variable load, speed, and environmental conditions, not to automate control.

Combined with the structural design and tuned suspension, the 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special maintains its classification as a touring motorcycle with a cruiser form. The platform delivers consistent power, linear handling, and functional features that support long-haul comfort without external fairings or integrated infotainment hardware.
